Once the country’s number one whaling ports, New Bedford inspired Herman Melville to write and set the story of ‘Moby Dick’ and is now home to the world’s largest museum of its kind. Established in 1903, the museum displays the most outstanding collection of American whaling and maritime history. Highlights include an 89ft half-scale replica of a square rigged whaling boat and a 66ft blue whale skeleton.
