Welcome to the fourth edition of the Yacht Insider’s Guide to the Balearic Islands. In this new, revised and updated edition you will find a wealth of local information regarding shore side attractions, alongside an exhaustive recommendations based listing of yacht support service providers. On request from many crew we have included a section for Barcelona.
The first section of this guide highlights major local features of interest to yachtsmen cruising the region. These include marinas and harbours, local attractions and sights, restaurants & hotel recommendations, outdoor activities, spas and much more.
Visiting seafarers, guests or crew, will find amongst these pages valuable information that we hope will help them make the most of their stay in the Balears.
The second section of the book is a recommendation-based directory of private companies offering yacht, crew and guest support services. Readers will find here four distinct categories: Getting Around, Provisioning, Yacht and Crew Support and Miscellaneous. The directory now covers the vast majority of businesses interacting with the yachting community.
This guide is the result of exhaustive on site research, backed by recommendations from captains, crew and yacht owners. We hope that the Yacht Insider’s Guides will prove to be a useful tool during your stay in the Balearic Islands.
About this guide
The fourth edition to the Balearic Islands was compiled and written by Maria and Gilles Herant in the winter of 2012/2013. Both authors have a professional experience of over 20 years in the Mediterranean yachting industry: Maria started crewing on yachts in the late 80’s, and has remained close to the industry ever since. She published the first ever dedicated yacht shore service guides to The Dodecanese Islands and Turkey, and has been involved in numerous publications since then. Gilles is an ex shipyard manager, who spent over 15 years working in the industry in Greece, before switching to yacht surveying and engineering. Above all, both have the detachment necessary to produce a truly independent and objective guide.
