The largest coastal community in New Hampshire, Portsmouth is considered one of the best small cities in America. Portsmouth’s historical charm also offers diversity to its visitors - upscale coffee shops and art galleries stand alongside old-fashioned barbershops and tattoo parlors. Located at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, Portsmouth is a seaside gem of bridges, brick, and seagulls. The river and its tributaries have something to offer every cruiser, from quiet anchorage to full service marinas or a winter-long berth. Situated inside Little Harbor, with easy access to the Atlantic Ocean, Portsmouth has one of the most complete marinas a cruiser can visit. Across from Little Harbor is Odiorne Point State Park, a perfect place for bird watching, especially if you have a kayak to paddle around the marshes. The region is also home to the renowned Wentworth by the Sea Marina. Adjacent to Portsmouth is Kittery, Maine, home of first class marinas, and a perfect starting base for any cruising in Maine or to experience the ambiance of the city in downtown Portsmouth.
