Sea Services is the well established and stocked chandlery located Rue Deproge in Fort de France, within walking distance from the waterfront. Run by Jacques Bardyn and Ciarla Decker - both fluent in English - it is a landmark for any Superyacht stopping in Fort de France. The Sea Service store is divided in two… On one side, the regular chandlery with a large stock of Superyacht orientated products and a great selection of pumps, spares kits and standing rigging - for which, they even manufacture their own standing rigging from 2-12mm, on a 'guaranteed turnaround' of 24hrs (see ‘Rigging’ section for further info) or icemakers. They are also agents for 3M products, International Paints (for both their 'yacht', and 'marine' ranges) antifouling / paints available at duty free discount prices (for non French flagged vessels) or Kolorian paints. They also stock the whole line of environmentally friendly Mattchem Marine products, and can deliver (in large quantities) bilge or deck cleaner, biocide treatment for fuel, teak oils, greases, holding tank treatments, seriously large sponges and chamois, fender cleaner etc… (checkout more info. for this interesting supplier on their www.mattchem.com). As agents for the French Hydrographic service, they carry good stocks of charts for the Caribbean (right up to Florida), the Atlantic Ocean, and Panama. Any item or product not in stock can be ordered and delivered in record time, thanks to their reactivity and excellent network. On the other side of the store, crew can find a superb collection of marine clothing from high quality brands such as 'Saint James’, ‘TBS' beachtowels and clothing (for men and women); 'Fleur de Sel' ladies clothing; plus a fantastic range of ‘custom made’ bags, accessories... and a great selection of nautical gifts and other ‘goodies' including stained glass ‘Compass Rose’, ‘Sunrise-Sunset’, ‘Hummingbirds’ and ‘Sea Horses’… all on display in the store! They are open Monday to Friday 0830-1715, plus 0830-1230hrs on Saturdays; but told us that their schedule can be flexible upon pre- arranged request. They can also take orders over the phone and ship items anywhere in the world, with payment by credit card (via an officially accredited system). Rigging: Sea Services is also a well stocked rigging operation. They have an excellent choice of hi-tech ropes from Cousin Trestec, with whom they have been working for over 20 years. They make rigging swaged fittings on 1 x 19 rigid stainless steel, up to 12 mm diameter. The cable comes with a guarantee supplied by their manufacturer to European standards, for clients needing this for insurance purposes. They have a commitment to starting any rigging works within 24hrs of being given the job, but can usually take the work in the morning and arrange to have it done by the evening. With more and more yachts now accessing all that Fort de France has to offer, by anchoring in the bay; they then have easy access to Sea Services with their dinghy.
